A friend recommended the following parts for a new pc build. Keep in mind I'm functionally illiterate when it comes to hardware. I will have help with the install.

I'm looking to spend in the $180-230 range.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+(65W) Windsor 2.0GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor
WINTEC AMPO 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
ABIT KN9 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
HITACHI Deskstar T7K500 HDT725032VLA360 (0A33435) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

I plan to be gaming quite a bit on this system. Something that will give me an efficient fps on a game such as Quake 4 is necessary. Thank you for any suggestions.

Either an Nvidia 7900GS or an ATI Radeon x1950Pro would both suite you just fine for that price range.

The x1950pro will be a little faster than the 7900GS, so just find what is in your budget.
