Looking for an EEPROM............

I have an Asus SP97V motherboard that won't run because of a bad bios chip. The boot block portion functions but none of the six or so flashing programs can get to it to reflash it. I get reports like 'unidentified chip' to 'write protected'. I tried the chip in another SP97V mobo and get the same results. I know the mobo is not worth a lot of work because of its age but its the principle of the thing, I want to make it work.

I believe that if I could find a working 29EE010 EEPROM that I could flash it. I believe that Uniflash will let me flash even the boot block section but finding the chip is the problem. Does anyone have any sources for surplus or inexpensive EEPROMS? Anyone have a mobo that is physically damaged and dead that has a 32-pin DIP bios chip (peel off the label and see if it has 29EE010 printed on it)? Your help and guidance will be appreciated!

Thanks.....................

You can use almost any 1 Meg chip to replace your bad one. most pentium class MB will have these EEPROMs so the should be easy to find.

Do you have a means of reliably programming the new chip though or were you in need of that services as well?

Email me if you need more help;)
