Looking for an ATX case that can take the Corsair H100 but keep out dust.

Hello AT! I scored an H100 on BF for $70 and am hunting now for a nice/minimalistic black/dark case like the Fractal Design R3 which doe not have enough clearance to use the H100 on the top. The concept of covering unused fan mounts with soundproof/dustproof is a very good idea. I have an i5 2500K and the Asus Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 mobo on the way by mid February. Thanks for suggestions.

I'm kinda lost here. So your looking for a case which looks basic, has very little ventilation, no led fans, minimal places to mount intake fans that are visible with the hopes of the H100 making up for the lack of ventilation while you overclock your 2500k....Correct me if I'm wrong.

What about the following. It does look to meet your requirments but looks like it would require a case mod to mount the H100. Looks like the room is there but no upper fans are stock. Might be more trouble than it's worth tho.

Pretty much you need to search for full towers to get the upper room. Or for cases that have the option for upper/lower power supply mounts. Most cases that have the simple look don't fall into this category tho.

Tip: Just look at the rear view images of a case that has the look you want on newegg. If you look at the mb backplate orientation you'll get an idea of the upper room available in the case. If it has upper fans also it'll be a plus if they are 120's then it's a bonus as most likely it'll bolt right on.

I have the Corsair 500 and love it. With a few filter/fan mod's all is good and quiet.
I am not on water thou I think the H100 will fit in the top.

The H100 fits in the 500R and 400R just fine. The case was built with that specific rad in mind.

The fractal looks like a nice choice for the "monolith" look the Op is talking about.

Seeing how you changed to maybe something with a little bling this one might work for you. It looks like it's kinda simple, side window, not too much trouble to mount the H100 at the top. You might have to drill a couple of holes to secure the rad. The included fans in the case are kinda external 140mm's which you could leave and use the Corsairs in push for better results dependant on MB heatsink/power connector clearance.

Here's a link to a post that has some photos with the top cover and fans removed. Does't look like it would be too hard to mount the H100.

Corsair: 550D might be what you want, out sometime in mid-late February if you can wait (check the video at this link for a good look): http://www.corsair.com/obsidian-series-550d-mid-tower-quiet-case.html

Corsair 500R is a nice case, friend has one with a 2500k (stock HSF no OC), 560Ti, 2 hard drives and an SSD and it's super quiet, way quieter than I was expecting given the lack of sound dampening and amount of fans, quieter than my P182 with 24/7 1200rpm fans.

550D will also cost $149.

Of course 😉

Is that a custom job? I can't tell. Sorry for such idiocy. 😛

PS. The link to high res does not work.

And that Corsair 550D looks sweet. The only "bling" i probably like is a side window to show off my OCD cleanup inside my case.

I fixed the high res for ya, for some reason my photoshop was making everything PNG's that day instead of JPG's 🙂

Yep, had a company waterjet cut that for me, after I drew it in autocad for them. They also laser cut a grill for it too 🙂 Check out: THIS POST and for my custom grill THIS POST.

I was looking at this. I dont need the side fans if I have an H100 kit, I dont really game so use the internal HD3000, but I do video conversions and am planning to learn some photoshop work. I probably wouldn't have bought the H100 at the normal price but for $65 or so after rebate I couldn't pass it up. Now I'm trying to see if I can get the black 500R and then install the bolt-on window that I linked above. Don't need side fans.

I'm trying to figure out how that kit works. Does it install on the case directly or does it go on the original side panel?

Window looks great 🙂 EDIT: After looking at the above pics, looks like some serious cutting of the side panel is required 🙁

The onboard vid card will work fine for Photoshop, Premiere, etc 🙂

Yep it does look like some modding is required for the side window. I would think that Corsair would be making a side panel with a window as an option....Just a matter of when tho.

The 500R is pretty cheap on Amazon with free shipping. If you view the images you'll see one that has a H100 mounted in it. Looks pretty clean 🙂

How hard would it be to do the panel cutting? My dad may be able to do it. Works at a railroad and probably has contacts who do something like this.

I doubt it would be too hard. Some wide painters tape a drill bit and a jigsaw/skillsaw is about all it would take to make the hole. Then a file or sandpaper to clean the edge up.

The 500r has a nice look. I'm debating if I wanna pick one up to play around with.

I'm trying to decide between white and black. Everything I have is black but that white one looks sleek. I can probably manage the cutout myself. Mobo won't be here till mid february anyway.

Some one on overclockers did put a window in a 500R using lexan I believe.

The white looks pretty sweet in person, my friend bought one a few months ago. Both look good, just your preference.
