I play EQ2. Originally I was leaning towards the Geforce cards, all the reviews/benchmarks seem pretty even but everyone seems to lean slightly towards the Geforce cards. But, EQ2 has a studdering issue with the Geforce 6 series. So..... that made me slide over to the ATI side. I currently have a 9800PRO (128mb), so this is gonna be a nice upgrade for me.

Anyways, I want to know the major difference between the x850 and the x800. Is it really worth the extra cash? Also, which model should I choose for best preformance?

MOBO: A7n8X - E Delux
CPU: AMD 3200+ XP
RAM: 1 gig
VIDEO: 9800pro (128mb)
 
I think the X850 is good if you have the cash

However, you may want to think about upgrading to 2GB RAM, as I heard that it is needed for EQ2
 
you can only get the x800 line the x850 line is only pci-express

You also might wanna kick some funds for new system

The X850 is now in AGP flavor

Though it may be a while before you see one on the market

i had a friend who had 1GB in his comp along with an X800 Pro

he upgraded to 2GB and saw a major improvement
 
Yeah, from what I've heard, EQ2 is a major memory hog. A friend of mine also had 1GB of RAM, and a 9600XT. He thought it was his video, but I told him that I read that EQ2 was a huge memory hog, and that I recommended he double his memory. Turns out, I was right. He got between a 10-30% increase in performance from doubling his memory. Thats what I would do before anything as far as a videocard upgrade, as it may end up solving your problem.
 
I thought about upgrading my ram. MY big beef with that is I have to buy a gig stick as I only have have 3 slots. SO I would have 512x512x1gig. If I wanted to go for a 1gigx1gig configuration it would cost me $600 for a an upgrade of 1 gig in memory. I know thats how much the video card is gonna set me back, but cause I have the money, I figure my best option is video now, memory later.
