I use a mobile hotspot to connect to the internet. like all mobile hotspots, it runs on a battery and you recharge it with a USB cable.

I want one that plugs into the wall (AC powered) so I don't have to always be recharging it, watching how much battery there is left, and waking it up because it goes into "suspend" after 15 or 30 minutes. an AC powered hotspot will always be on. you just plug it into the wall and leave it alone.

basically, just a wifi access point (AP) that receives cellular signal instead of cable/DSL.

but I haven't seen anything like that. why not?????????

does anybody know where to get such a thing? do you have any examples? are they called something other than "hotspot" and that's why I can't find one?

T-mobile has this 3G/4G/LTE Cellspot router, but it only works with T-mobile as far as I know. They may not even charge you for the rental.

TP-Link has this available, though I can't tell if it requires a 3G/4G USB modem or not. LTE is not supported.

according to the description, the T-mobile 4G LTE Cellspot is a "mini LTE tower" that provides 3000 square feet of coverage for cell phones.

you plug it into your broadband connection (cable, dsl, etc) and people can then use their cell phones as the calls are sent through that broadband connection.

they say it can only be used in an area where T-Mobile already has cell phone service. bizarre.

that's not the sort of AP I was talking about.

the TP-Link 3G/4G Wireless Router is a wifi router that you can use in conjunction with your 3G/4G USB Modem, which plugs directly into your computer to give you broadband via 3G/4G and does not provide WiFi connectivity. it's only a modem. you put those two together to make a wifi hotspot.

that's not what I was talking about either.

think of a typical WiFi B/G/N access point (AP) that plugs into the wall with an AC adapter (does not use batteries) and connects to cable or DSL broadband. one of those, except it receives 4G LTE like a hotspot does.

that's what I was talking about.

From their description:

All usage over the 4G LTE CellSpot will be billed to your T-Mobile account just like usage over the T-Mobile’s network

Look into something like a Turbo Hub.

Problem with using mobile for regular internet is the data caps. If you're not careful and there is a process that decides to use lot of internet you could be in for a very rude bill.

Why not one of those two headed USB cables that were used to power USB hdd? They tap two USB ports for more current. Just hook up second one to a USB charger.

From their description:

let's quote the whole thing, shall we?

•The 4G LTE CellSpot is a simple plug-and-play dedicated 4G LTE mini-tower in your home or small office.

•The device creates 3G/4G UMTS and 4G LTE signal to improve indoor coverage, providing you with more dependable voice calls and more consistent data speeds.

•All usage over the 4G LTE CellSpot will be billed to your T-Mobile account just like usage over the T-Mobile’s network.

•Data speeds cannot exceed your internet service provider’s (ISP) data speed.

the Netgear MBR1516 4G LTE Router (Turbo Hub) is what I was talking about. I guess such things are called "Mobile Broadband Wireless Routers". that should help find more examples.

it has a nice, big, 12V 2.5A AC adapter.

Are you saying your mobile hotspot cannot be charging and active at the same time? The three headed cable is only needed if you have to plug the hotspot into your computer's usb port. Otherwise just get a 2A USB charger and a longer usb cable.

I've got a better idea. Be civil or get the fsck out.

There are 3G and 4G wireless modems that you can plug directly into enabled routers (that are designed for those 3G 4G modems) to provide the functionality you're talking about. I'll be damned if I'm going to give someone product info when they act like an ass.

OP could not even provide what make/model he is using in the first place.

When members tried to help with wild guesses, instead appreciations, he fxxked everyone who did not provide the answer he wanted.

Moderator should ban any member like this.

piss off, both of you! and your stupid buddies who have the reading comprehension of a 3 year old. I don't care. nope, I don't. you are below my standards.

ban me, I don't care. not joking when I say that if I have to stoop to your level to continue using the forum, I won't use it. there are plenty of other places to resolve tech issues.

probably won't anyway. it really was a waste of time here. expected more from anandtech.
