Hi. I'm building my first computer for home use (web browsing/excel). I think I want to use a P4 (533fsb) 2.4Mhz processor. I've been looking on pricewatch.com for a combo motherboard and a case, but am unsure what to buy. I'd really appreciate specific recommendations.

I'm also planning to get 512 MB of PC2700 DDR 333Mhz . Is this corrrect?

Thanks

Hey, I can appreciate getting into the upgrade swing. If that's all I did with my PC, I wouldn't be looking to upgrade my PIII-850. It depends on your usage still and what you think you might want to do ultimately, because that's a lot more than you need to surf and program spreadsheets. You'd be better off buying a laptop if that's all you want, and go to Dell and get their best business system for what you want to pay.

But if it's a P4 533fsb you be wanting...

If you want to listen to music while your surfing, maybe an occasional high res console-type shooter game, consider the 845PE. It supports hyper threading, giving you future upgradability. Plus it'll give me something to envy when you post your system specs. Still, it's more than you need for the foreseeable future given your stated intended application.

Id look at a I8845PE motherboard - Asus P4PE or similar or an SIS655 board. Gigabyte makes a super board.

IMHO
