the dynatron k618

I am build a few low noise systems in some low height cases.

I will use;

intel i3 2120t

intel i5 2500t

intel i7 3770t

the three cpu heat sinks all fit 1156/1155 the cpus all have very low power / heat.

The cases are;

Anyone tried to cool with those heatsinks? If I get the k520 or k618 and it runs too warm I could fit a fan.

I don't think it will work.

Those heatsinks are made to be stuck in low profile 1U and 2U servers that have a LOT of forced airflow. You ever listen to one of them running? Sure, the CPU heatsink itself may not have a fan on it, but there sure is a HUGE amount of airflow going through them. They often even duct the air in those rackmount cases.

What will those systems be used for? What other parts are you considering?

If you are running a big graphics card, then the CPU fan will be the least of your worries. If you are NOT running a graphics card but are running a bunch of HDDs, the CPU fan will be the least of your worries. If you are running neither graphics card nor HDDs, then that case is too big and expensive.

For instance, if you wanted a quiet rig running an SSD, check out the Lian Li PC-Q11 series in silver or black. Either undervolt the stock fan or replace it with something like this which can be further undervolted. Basically you WANT to have airflow, but can get by with so little that it is not audible. Then use a heatsink like this one with the fan removed. Finally, use a PSU like these to power the whole thing.

these are really good gpus. truly amazing for htpc.

i grabbed a lot of these

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...F8&me=&seller=

at 400 but after discount under 290.

these units will be quiet htpc first with dvr duty to a nas.

gaming second. I am building a few of them for friends and family.

I was able to build a nice quiet htpc with this P.O.S. case

I guess you have a different definition of HTPC than I do. Mine includes a case that makes it similar in size/shape to my home theater surround receiver. :p

Well he's right i suppose, the Big Shuriken is one of the more popular htpc coolers, and with reason. And if you think it's expensive there's always Noctua NH-L12 (which wouldn't even fit with top fan).

But those T cpu's run pretty cool, you might even get away with using the stock cooler.
