Looking for advice for dealing with Dell...

I ordered a Viewsonic VP171b about a week ago and I don't think it will ship for a while because the new estimated shipping time is 3+ weeks. Dell told me on or before the 12th, but looking at the 3+ weeks in the product link makes that seem unlikely now. I need a monitor soon so I'm thinking of ordering another one, but I got 15% off plus a $30 off coupon last week which made it $450 w/tax. I've heard of ppl calling dell and haviing them ship an in stock nicer monitor and I've also read that they are authorized to give up to $160 more. Any experiences and advice you can share? I'm also thinking about the 2001fp for $800 w/tax, but its kind of out of my limit.
