ATOT recommend me a wrist watch with a cloth band, black face, and analog dial, no tachymeter or chronograph. Looking for something simple yet classy. I want a watch that costs $50-100, lower is better - I don't need $200 on my wrist. Thank you.

Classy yet a cloth band, that's kinda tough. I think classy, its leather, alligator etc. Top right is my Ingersoll Apache, top left is my Hamilton Jazzmaster, its my smallest at 42mm. The other 2 are just Invicta diver watches. Maybe look into a Seiko for yourself, on Amazon. My cheapest is the bottom left diver $99 at Costco, then the other diver $150 Costco. The Apache was $200 on Amazon, still is, the Hamilton was $499 used from ebay.

You can always change the band on a watch that you like. Cloth bands usually come on more sporty watches, which may not be what you're looking for when you say "classy".

You should also have some idea of the case size (diameter) that you want. Today's watches tend to be rather large, as is the current fashion, but more classically sized watches are widely available. If you're ordering online, be sure you know what you're ordering.

Seiko SUR055. $63. Quartz movement (battery). Black dial. 42mm case (a bit on the large side, IMO) .

Thickness? Mechanical or quartz?

I don't really like large watches, so I guess thinner? Quartz is ok!

Hmm yeah good point. It may be tough to find something "classy" with cloth. There's a couple of nice G.Shock on Amazon with cloth. I like the quality and design of G.Shock watches but the aesthetic isn't appealing to me.

And damn dude you have some nice watches. :p

That Seiko is pretty perfect and the price is right, but the dial markers look ugly to me. It looks cheap.

Hold on, I have an idea I'll take a picture of my current watch and upload it I really like the look but it's cheap and flimsy. Paid $7 for it at Walmart.

This is the kind of watch I'm looking for it's simple and classic. Not too many markings and gadgets on the front, and the numbers are all Arabic numerals 1-12. I'm looking at it now and the band does appear cheap and ugly to me.

Is this style called a "divers watch"? Well that's what I'm looking for but obviously better quality and with an LED backlight. Any suggestions are much appreciated, thank you.

I guess Seiko is the right brand for me unless someone else can make a suggestion, but I'm pretty sure it's a Seiko I want. Thanks fellas.

If you want to change the band I recommend the place below, or you can even check Amazon, but just get a quick release. I have several for swapping out mine from black, brown and blue.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this before, but watch bands can be changed relatively simply. Find the watch you want regardless of band, then buy the band you want separately. Don't discount a good option just because it doesn't have the band you want included.

hmmm, how about a Breitling? ;)

In all seriousness I'd look at Citizen, Seiko, or Fossil.

Why spend spend m much on a watch? Fashion? Only watch I have ever owned is a Timex Expedition. I wear it on my wrist dial side down, as my dad did. :~!

Check out the Citizen BM8180-03E. It's solar powered and seems like it might fit your bill. I have one and love it; I think for the price it's a great piece. The only thing negative I have to say about it is the crystal; it's just mineral crystal which can scratch pretty easily (I take care of my stuff, especially this watch, and there's a couple small scratches on it) but for $100 or less, you're not gonna get the best crystal.

When I hit the lottery, I will go absurd on watches, me loves watches. I had a Rolex from 94 to 2013, then sold it for more than I paid.

Funny how you look for recommendations for a watch without a lot of specifics, then it becomes "must look exactly like this." :p

That isn't a dress watch, so I don't know that most would call is "classy". And it's not a diver. It's a classic "field" (old military style) watch. Note the 24 hour markers. Goes more with a backpack than a briefcase.

Should be easy enough to find, and many will come with a cloth or nylon band, but again, you can easily add a textile band for $10 or so. Not all field watches will be designed identically. Some may only have only two or four numeric hour markers, some may have a date display, some won't have the outer minute markers.

id spend a bit more and get something that has sapphire glass so it doesnt get scratched up and not worry about the strap material so much because its easy to swap a new one on and if its your only watch its guaranteed to get smelly and gross sooner rather than later.

I have 10 watches. I think 3 or 4 are sapphire crystal and 6 or so are mineral crystal. I don't have a scratch on any of them. Then again they are all decent brands like Seiko, Citizen, Tissot or Movado. I also don't do too many outdoor activities that would involve contact with things like rocks either.

I guess your mileage may vary.

Oh, I guess I can think of another negative of that Citizen I posted: the illumination isn't very good. I haven't once had to use it, but if I had to and hadn't just had the watch under a bright light (unlikely), then it would be hard to see in the dark. That's why I EDC a flashlight though (haha not really)!
