I need a new printer that is supported by Linux. I am running UBUNTU 8.04 on my laptop and use a wireless network. Sometimes there is a Windows laptop also on the network, but often my Linux computer is the only user on the network.

Previously I had a Lexmark 1420 wireless printer on the network, and it worked great with Windows. Any Windows computer on the network could print to the wireless printer and all was well.

But I recently loaded UBUNTU onto my laptop and there are no Linux drivers for that printer, and another user (Windows) needed a printer so I gave it away. Now I need to replace it.

It is a very light duty printer, but needs to be accessible from Windows or Linux.

The HP Deskjet 6988 looks like it might work for me, but I?m looking for feedback from people who have actually used a wireless printer from Linux.

The Canon MP620 has the functionality in Windows, but I don?t see any evidence that there are Linux drivers available.

Check Linux forums. You may be able to find custom drivers for printers that don't supply Linux drivers from the manufacuter. As you know its all about finding drivers. I'm pretty sure you can find the drivers you need for most any printer on the market right now.
