they should have a guy that gives books a numerical score like that wine critic. he can publish a newsletter with the latest numerical scores and say "When I read a book, I really read it in three dimensions, with my nose I smell the paper, with my eyes I read it, and roll it in my brain for a while before digesting it" that would be funny.

Amazon has that specific feature (which I use all the time). Find a book you liked, then click on "see similar items" on the right middle of the page or read the list of "people who bought this book also bought.." which is underneath the book title/price/description. Then you can sort by ratings and date published.

As evil as Amazon is overall, I really like most of their features. Even if I'm shopping at Borders.com or Bn.com, I go to Amazon first to find specifically what I'm looking for.

That's what I do when I'm shopping for technical books. They have a nice system there, most of the reviews are actually pretty decent, and the prices are better than what I find locally. But I can find better prices at other places -- bookpool, fatbrain, half, or just looking on mysimon.

Not exactly what you're wanting, but check out Book-a-Minute. A lot of them are funny, and most of them provide some interesting insights to the symbolism behind the books.
