I need something web based that I can host one of our servers. It can run on Windows or Linux, it doesn't really matter, but Windows would be more useful if the app supports Windows based authentication. Also need the ability to upload and download multiple files at once, rename, delete, copy, and move. The ability to compress single/multiple files to an archive before downloading is a plus. Webdav is useful buy not necessary. The ability to use create users groups outside of Windows/AD is useful as well.

I've already tried HTTP Commander, which did everything, but the install has a single problem, which isn't all that serious, but the lone dev doesn't appear to be interested in providing pre-sales support, so I can only imagine how he'd be after the money is in his pocket.

I also gave FileVista a quick test but it's way too simplistic and has almost no features other than the ability to upload/download a file, and for the same price as HTTP Commander which I thought was crazy.

As long as pricing isn't too far away from those two, does anyone here have any recommendations for a product that runs smoothly and has responsive support that will be there if there is an issue?

Thanks Jodell. Both good suggestions. I actually have an install of eXtplorer for another project, but it's a bit clunky and rough around the edges. Defintely good for a free app though, and a lot of features that even the pay apps don't have.

I saw File Manager before and asked some people to try the demo. It was missing too may features compared to some others, and no tree view (Windows explorer style view) though the price is very competitive compared to some of the other commercial apps with similar or even less features.

can you give a better idea of what youre really trying to do aside from file management? a little background on your needs and your users may help.

While it's good to know that there actually is a living person at the company that makes a product, I'm afraid that a 20 month response time doesn't really inspire much confidence...
