Looking for a used 9800 Pro

I have seen them go for ~150 all the way to ~280. Some were new, some had AIW, some had the extra memory (256 vs 128), some had the new R360 core.

I am looking for a plain Jane used ATI 9800 Pro. What is a good price for it used? Thanks.

Check out the FS/T forum and look for old auctions at eBay. Also, you don't state whether you want a built by ATi or would another manufacturer be OK?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have actually tried this and found it quite difficult. A lot of the FS threads were done with PM so the actual price wasn't obvious. In addition, there are a lot of ebay threads and a lot of variation between each auction (type of card, state of card, items included in the auction, type of shipping, etc...).

I had an idea in mind as to a great deal price, a good deal price, an OK deal price and a no-buy deal price. I wanted to confirm them here to see if I was on track, but I didn't want to bias the responders by posting my ideas.

$150-$170 unless it's a 256MB, then it might be $10-$15 more.
That is what I keep seeing everyone selling them for, just pony up for a 6600GT if is my advice. You likely won't even get any warranty backing with a used 9800p so if it goes belly up you are SOL. 6600GT is a better card with better video functionality too, and you get a warranty and a couple games with most.

Is 6600GT running PCIe or AGP?

$199 shipped AGP 8x They moved to a much better cooler that reduces the temps over 10c. Pine gets a lot of bad press and most of it deserved, but since you will have an invoice and year warranty I wouldn't let that disuade you from picking one up. Of course you can get the eVGA from newegg for $217 shipped if you are leary of XFX/Pine.

Mmmmm. Thanks for the link.

I have read some things about needing a certain minimum power supply. Are these true? If so what is the minimum?

Newegg has a number of different 6600GT AGP cards. Which one has the best following?

What's the difference between DDR and GDDR RAM?

Sorry to pepper you with lots of questions - you have just given me a new road to travel for video cards.

I'm not precisely certain what the technical spec difference between graphics and system ram are so someone else will have to answer that or google it. As to the brands, MSI and eVGA are the best of the lot of what is in stock@newegg, Leadtek is solid too but OOS. If you have a quality 300W or higher PSU I wouldn't worry about that 🙂 I have run a 6800GT@431/1.1ghz in a SFF with 200W ACHME PSU no worries.
