Looking for a UPS

I am currently looking for a new UPS (I don't have one currently) because of the frequent storms and brownouts in my area. I am unsure of what to look for in one... but the computer will not need to run long on the battery, it will be shut down ASAP in the case of bad weather. The PC is listed in in my profile. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I will also have a guitar amp connected to this.

i got an APC Back-UPS XS 1300VA from Circuit city for $100

it powers my rig @ 100% cpu load for 15 minutes, along with 2 monitors, speakers, and printer

Best Buy has a good selection, too. The first one listed here, the APC Model: BE750G, would be fine choice, in my opinion.

If you have Costco access, then check out what they have. Often a nice, big, Tripp-lite 1000 AV @ about $100. The biggest and best is an 1500 AV model for $200.

Assuming you are putting the guitar amp only on the surge protected outlet, not the battery backed sockets, the APC that's on sale this week at Best Buy should do you just fine. Besides the brands mentioned, CyberPower makes decent units - I'm using a 550VA C-P unit on my system.

This is the one hooked to my pc & lcd. The other electronics go to an extension bar. I LOVE the software Bulldog Plus that does status, logs, schedules (yes, it can schedule self-testing), and some settings like turning off the audible alert in the UPS. Now once in a while, there's a brief power out. The Bulldog will detect it, let me know about it in a pop-up window, begin a scheduled shutdown, and when the power is back it will do the same except that it'll cancel the shutdown. No wasted time waiting for shutting down & booting up.

Choosy users don't choose Belkin power equipment - or much of anything else either. Their business plan almost insures that you won't get value for your money.

I like the APC units myself. As to Belkin, they are ok for media card readers
and usb hubs ... I have both and they work perfect for me.

The UPS @best buy

I currently have a pretty questionable looking power bar/surge protector.. Using the 12% off coupons I always get, I could get this for maybe 105ish out the door.

Do the battery's on these last quite awhile?

Do these protect against surges adequately?
