Overclock your 4800+ to @3ghz.
Buy something cheap like Radeon 5570 ~45$ off of newegg.

a 5570 is around ~30-35%+ faster than your older GT220, and uses less power.

The 5570 is a good overclocker too, Techpowerup got their review card running
910mhz core (40%! overclock) / 1095mhz memory (22% overclock).

Your cpu would probably bottleneck a much faster card than that, at most buy something like a 5770.
Anything higher would be borderline silly.

Yeap it sounds good, get a 5570 OC it, OC your CPU.
You should notice pretty good gains in those games you play, fps wise.

what is your recomendations?

PowerColor AX5570 1GBD3-H Radeon HD 5570
45$ after MIR.

I don't think OC'ing is an option for me, I ran OCCT to see what kinda temps I was running and it shut down my pc 5 minutes into the test. But if thats a good card for what I have than I will look into it.

tweakboy recommends you get a nVidia GeForce 460 1GB for 120 dollars. In the future when you upgrade CPU and mobo to quad machine the card will perform even faster,,,, :) gl,,

That CPU is very slow. Either a $45 GT430 or $60 GTS250 is all you need.

Other cards such as HD5570, HD6570/6670, are all fine. I wouldnt' spend more than $65 since it's just going to be wasted with your CPU.

A GTX460 even bottlenecks a Q6600, so buying it for your CPU is just a waste.

if stuff is overheating then you may need to clean out your case. dust is a blanket.

should've grabbed those 4850/4870 deals the week after thanksgiving. right now, since you are building new in a few months, i'd say get a used card for cheap.
i see 4850 on ebay for $50, which is similar performance to 6770. you could also try to win an auction for 5750 or 5770 (a few have gone for ~$50) which isn't much worse than 6770.

Found my old radeon 6750 oced near 6770 levels performed pretty ok with my retired e8200 at 1600x1200 medium with BF3 a quad and it would have been perfectly playable.

So that would be my vote also russian posted about a gts250 that card is more then capable as well either aren't bad choices.

Not sure if your motherboards capable but a budget quad and a $60 gts250 could easily be had for about $150 if you shop around.

Thanks for all the replys everyone. I am going to upgrade in the feburary/march/april area, and I don't plan on carrying anything from my current pc to the new one I am buying ( except the monitor keyboard and mouse maybe ) so the gtx460 and 560ti aren't really options. I am planning on buyynig the 6970 or maybe a card in the 7000 series for my new pc along with the i5 2500k, or something better.

@ElFenix, my pc doesnt have the sides on it, its completely open in my basement. the heatsink for my cpu has some dust in it but I really havent got around to cleaning it.
