Tell her you are gay first.

Do you want to go over there, or agree with what is going on over there?

just tell her man... worst thing you could do is hold it back. she'll be upset but you gotta do it.

Just call her up and tell her. That's what my mom did to me "Hey - guess what, I just got activated and will be going to either Iraq or Afghanistan"

Call her when you know she'll be at home and have time to fully absorb it.

I am a civilian working for the navy and I just had to tell my mom I am going to Iraq. I basically just told her. She flipped out. Especially since I am an only child. She really went nuts when I told her that I had volunteered to go.

I've been over there once already, and when I broke the news to my mom and dad, my mom flipped and my dad had to leave for a sec. MY Dad being an ex-marone Vietnam vet, he wasn't happy. They eventually got over it though. Believe it or not, your deployment affects them more than it affects you. I'm in the Army Reserves btw if anyone needs to know.

EDIT: Good luck man, don't turn your back on the locals. EVER.

Get 'Baby-Wipes', lots & lots of Baby-Wipes.
Cases of 'em.

Take a digital camers & several Flash Memory SD's - send them home & have them
returned blank to you after the family downloads and saves the pics.

Internet time is sporadic, use the E-mail as best you can to keep in touch with family.
We had 6 times where we able to IM
back & forth to our son while he was there - there's comfort in that.

Post as you can, keep your eyes open, trust nothing.

Tell her asap, give her every moment you can before you go (within reason, of course). Good luck, come home safe.

Thankyou, seriously thankyou... you will be in my thoughts. Stay safe, fight hard....

No advice of how to tell your mom... no matter how you tell her it's gonna be rough.

Good luck...

Don't put it off, just tell her. Value the time you have left and go out to eat or something while you can.
