Looking for a Subnotebook

My mom needs a subnotebook and while I first thought of an IBM X series laptop, I realize that it may be a bit too big (Around 12" right?) and so I'm looking for something along the lines of 10". I'm not that open to suggestions so please avoid suggesting Dell, apple, or Toshiba. The currrent notebook I've been looking at at the moment is a Fujitsu P7000 notebook. If there are any other laptops you guys can think of, please let me know. Also I'm wondering if there are some older subnotebook laptop models I could look at that I may be able to pickup off ebay.

Sony makes a slick 11.1" laptop, but it's quite pricey, although not that much more than the Fujitsu. They also made some neat little 10" laptops not so long ago that you will probably be able to find used on eBay.

Averatec has a very cheap 10" model, but their build quality is notoriously poor (although I was impressed with the one I played with at Best Buy).

Unfortunately Sharp seems to have discontinued its Actius MM20P laptop, which was an incredibly lightweight notebook. They're still available as refurbs from Sharp's website for a good price, though.

Some of those recommendations are a bit excessive. I can't imagine needing that much speed for what one can do on a laptop. What are some decent older brands I can get used? For example if I was looking for a T series laptop that was used, I'd get a T42 from IBM, so what would be the equivalent for Subnotebooks with 10" screens? No point in getting something faster than 2ghz, and especially one with 'two cores'.

Sharp used to make a 10" laptop that weighs less than 2 lbs, but it takes a Transmeta chip and can be painfully slow (because of the poorly implemented throttling mechanism).

This was only $800 when I checked on Newegg like half a year ago or so but it's been off the market and I can't find it anywhere.
