Looking for a sub $600 laptop

I'm trying to buy a laptop for my girlfriend and just need something very basic. Literally all she needs it for is email, web surfing, storing music and occasional PowerPoint presentations. (she doesn't want a desktop) Any recommendations?

I have been looking at the Lenovo R60 and R60e models (which start at $600) and the Dell Inspiron 1501 model. (which starts at $500) However, given how basic the needs are, would i be better off gonig to Walmart or BestBuy and getting one of the $400 ones there?

Thanks in advance.

Wow, that's a good deal. 512MB RAM, DVD burner, wireless LAN and 60GB hard disk for ~$430 out the door, and ~$330 after rebate. Not too shabby. I wonder how much it costs with a 2-year warranty. I wouldn't want to buy a laptop without insurance.
