Looking for a specific type of modem

Does anyone know any vendors or places that produce a dialup modem (preferably pci based) that has either 4kV isolation or is optically isolated? Thanks.

I'd sort of agree....though I don't know if anyone in those forums will know what a 4Kv isolation transformer is or does, or if it's optically isolated. (Optically isolated?)

This isnt a troubleshooting issue. Im looking for a vendor that provides a 4kV isolated modem for use in a medical environment.

Given that I'm also in the medical industry, I know EXACTLY why he's asking here.

The 4-5kV is for an isolation voltage to cover getting hit with a defibrulator and to pass the HIPOT and the leakage tests.

Does the modem have to be internal or can it be external? There are various COM port isolating devices, as well as USB->COM port adapters with isolation. At which point you could simply have the modem in a non-isolated environment while keeping the device properly isolated. There are also fiber optic "modems" that can be used to isolate the modem from the device.

Im looking for an internal PCI modem however if you could provide me with the models/brands of any dialup modems that meet this requirement at all that would be great. They will be interfacing with a host board running windows xp.

I was able to find a company that is based in sweden that makes 4kv rated modems (intertex.se) however they do not have any certifications like UL/FCC and their dialup line is not released in the US. I cant find any other companies that make a modem with this type of isolation voltage. My other option is to find an inline coupler/pass through device for a phone line that would give it 4kV of isolation and so far I have not been able to find that either. Any ideas?

Well both the power and the phone line, however if I use a normal PCI modem, the power isolation is already taken care of since it will run off the computers (isolated) power, so only the phone line would have to be isolated. So if they make something that acts as like a 4kV (or more) isolation coupler for the phoneline that would be perfect.
