looking for a space combat game

if anyone played star wars galaxies : jump to lightspeed, i really liked that, so i would be looking for a game similar to that. i've been looking at games like spaceforce rogue universe and dark star one (anyone played those? opinions?).

things i really liked from SWG
- different hulls/chassis (some could hold more items/weapons)
- number of changeable parts on the ship (booster, engine, weapons, etc.)
- ability to do missions in a storyline and also just fly around and fight w/o a mission
- random parts come from some defeated ships (not only in mission modes)

X3 takes your idea to the nth degree. Although it is a really good game, it is way too daunting for me and my casual playstyle. It is an extremely involving game.

If you want a more arcade-sy type game, I would go with Freelancer or Darkstar One. I preferred Freelancer over DS1 because you can actually buy new ships and use them. In DS1, you have the same ship that you just "upgrade" with artifacts in the game.

Personally, can't wait for em. Especially Tomorrow War. Hopefully they will be quality games.

Freelancer is GREAT and there are TONS of mods for it.

Darkstar one is a clone that lacks the modability but has updated graphics.

Both can be found in the bargin area of most pc stores (5.99-9.99)

From what I have read:

Dark Horizon is Tarr Chronicles 2. Good looking space fighter game with little story.

and

The Tomorrow War is some kind of russian attempt.

However, my thread on this exact same subject maybe 2 weeks ago failed to deliver any strong info on either game.
