All I can remember are the following lyrics

"we raced the sun and almost beat it" (or something like that)
and then another part went "we were clean on the outside but rotting on the inside" or something to that effect. It was a rock song if that helps.

I know that one! It's called "Every Emo Alt Rock Song Ever Written."

And, I know the group. The lead singer is a druggie and the lead guitarist is a cruelly misunderstood art school dropout. The band has broken up several times but is now trying to work through it all, because their van has been successfully repaired and the drummer's beyotch of a control freak girlfriend, the source of many of their problems, finally left him for a hockey player.
