Looking For a "Smart" Telephone...

Per the subject: I'm trying to help a friend of mine who's got 1 phone line and wants to buy a telephone that can sense when a fax tone is coming in and route the signal to the fax machine before his answering machine picks up the call.

Is there such an animal? If so, can you make some specific recommendations as to phone models as it appears to be impossible to determine phone capabilities based on "box specs"; one needs to have the manual to really access capability.

THANKS.

Actually I have seen this done with the fax and not the phone. My fax machine intercepts calls (phone must be plugged into fax machine output). Also there is distinctive ring (usually an option from most phone companies). See if the fax machine will recognize distinctive rings and he wont need to buy new hardware.

Sorry guess you aren't a Simpsons fan.

You should checkout Radioshack I'm pretty sure I've seen boxes in there that have the funcitonality you want.
