i've had a few standard dvd's before, after inserting a disc or after bootup they get extremely loud and annoys me to death

last one was a min dvd and it was very quiet and loved it but now i need a standard size one

i dont care about speed, just as long as its always silent....any help?

thanks in advance

Most of the Plextor drives (the Sanyo based ones: 712, 716, 755, 760) can be adjusted to be as silent as you want using the Plextools software that comes with the retail boxed ones. The recent 760 drives are relatively inexpensive as Plextor drives go - My 712 sold for around $190. (back when the dollar was worth more than now) when introduced - I waited until they were about $70. AR before buying ;) .

Agreed. Plextor is a good choice for you, very quiet, and very good quality drives as well.
Another option is NEC. Not as quiet, but a bit cheaper.

I have two external Plextors and an external HP, and an external Samsung. All are perfectly quiet. I have a long standing prejudice against internal burners going back to 1993 and my first Pinnacle Micro 2X burner (SCSI External.) Externals have always been quieter and better performers.

i checked out some reviews on plextors, one mentioned that the silent options could be saved to internal drive memory which would be nice as i prefer to keep as few 3rd party apps installed as possible so hope its true as i went ahead and ordered one...thanks all for the advice
