Looking for a sandbox action game like Mercenaries 1

What are some of the better Mercs type games you all have played recently? I would just play through Mercs 1 again, but it freezes every ten minutes or so on my 360 and I don't have an xbox1 anymore.

That's not the program bro.. Ive got over 60 hours in mercs2 for 360 and it never once has locked on me..
that's how my console was behaving the last time it had to go in for RRoD.

but its so much fun....

Not sure about merc2 but I've played merc1 on my 360 many many hours. I think compat was released for merc1 in one of the final compat updates they did.

Far Cry 2 reminded me of Mercenaries for some reason... it has a lot of open world elements, maybe you should give that a try.

Earth Defense Force 2017. Its not open world but lots of running around and blowing sh*t up.
