Just looking for a new game that I can play off and on without too much time investment to pick up and play. I really liked the Hitman games, I don't like to run around aimlessly and kill 1000 baddies. The puzzle aspect was fun too. I also like the more contemporary weapons. I played Half-Life a long time ago and it was fun but I think I recall jumping puzzles and things like that becoming annoying. And the end was stupid with the weird alien world. I have been looking at:

-GTA San Andreas
-Rainbox Six Vegas

Just hoping to keep it cheap (these are $20 or less). Single player preferred (since I always get slaughtered by people that play 10+ hours each day) but with a multiplayer option would be nice. Thannks!

Seriously? You didn't like the end of HL?

Could you be a little more specific about the type of puzzles that you would like? You say you liked Hitman, and the puzzle aspect, but you didn't like HL's puzzles. You also don't like to kill a lot of baddies, AND you don't want to spend much time or money in investment.

That would rule out MMOs, and pretty much all RTS.

That would rule out L4D because there are 10,000+ baddies (even though there is COOP multiplayer).

I would say HL2 (there is no alien world) and it has a pretty simple learning curve. Maybe Bioshock?

Both are pretty cheap on Steam.

Yes, HL2 is a good option. Also look into the FEAR series of the games.

Do you like stealth based games?

Yeah definitely no to RTS and MMO. More FPS. About the puzzles, I really liked having to have a strategy to kill people. I know I looked at bioshock and don't really like the sci-fi feel from the screenshots. Thanks for the suggestions!

I don't think GTA or Rainbox Six Vegas will fit the bill if you like the Hitman style of gameplay [stealth assassin]

Pending you've played all of the Hitman games - these are worth a try too:

Assassin's Creed
Splinter Cell series
Old School - Metal Gear Solid
Max Payne 1 and 2

Should you like to try stealth games you can play the Splinter Cell series, Thief series of games. I recently played a stealth game called Velvet Assassin and it's pretty good if you can get past the poor checkpoint system.

I am not disagreeing with you at all, just saying that one of my favorite things to do in Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 is see how far I can get with nothing but a handgun and a silencer. Some missions it doesn't work at all, other I can complete large sections without alerting anyone, if I am careful, quick and accurate (if I don't miss my headshots)

Splinter Cell series without a doubt. Perhaps the same concept as Hitman.

Also another vote for the Thief series. May be old-ish games, but they were AWESOME.

Just to add something, I saw in your post that you were looking at Rainbow 6 Vegas, rather than the newer one cause of price. I can honestly say, that that is one of my favorite games. Maybe the story isn't as rich or deep as Crysis or Half-life, but when it comes to the game play it is the only FPS I never get tired of (and R6V2). In addition to the storyline game, you can play various locations in the game with 30-50 enemies, that spawn in random locations, and then you have to kill all of them. It is tough, and I always enjoy firing it up.

I never played Hitman, but this game requires much more stealth and planning than most other FPS's. There is no sneaking up and knifing a guy, but you can look under doors to see where enemies are, then send your team to go blast that door, while you come in from another entrance and take out the enemy from behind. Lots of that kind of strategy, and as I said before, you can sometimes have fun seeing how far you can get with just a pistol and silencer.

Also, there is no running and gunning in R6V. If you are playing on hard you die with 2 body shots or one head shot. it uses the right mouse key to back you up against a wall, (similar to Gears of War) then you can peak around the corner and fire. If you peak too long and they will shoot you right in the eye.

QFT, Splinter Cell, definitely. I loved the first one (on Xbox) and I loved the third one (Chaos Theory, on PC). I also thoroughly enjoyed Hitman (2-4, though the last one gave me a weaker impression). Chaos Theory and Double Agent are both fairly old games now, and hence are cheap and run decently on newer systems. The graphics also still look fairly good.

The two games play very similarly.
