looking for a reasonably priced switch

i've got a SOHO network of about 6 desktops and 1 laptop for my real estate. I don't want to do ICS and the router i'm (dlink di-624) is always needing a hard reset (we game a lot in this house as well)

what i need is a switch that i could connect my 6 desktops. (i cant buy cisco so that's out of the question, but has anyone had experience with this switch Netgear or this another Netgear?

another question if i connected the switch directly to the cable modem, would i be able to connect the wireless router thru the switch and still get wireless access? or would i have to connect the router to the modem first then the siwtch?

i wanna be able to run the network and have good throughtput for the games as well, and i feel if i used the router/switch config then i'm still gonna have the same problems as i do now.

i'm open to suggestions.

thanks 🙂

Unless your ISP provides you with multiple IP addresses (something that usually costs extra - check with your ISP), then you're going to need to keep the router plugged into the cable modem, and then plug the switch into the router.

As for switches, we use the FS116 in the shop where I work, and it works pretty well for what we use it for. Can't really say much about the other one you linked other than that the first 2 reviews don't look too promising for it (at least for the v3).
