Hello good folks,
I've put up with my rather loud system long enough. Truth is, right now I'm using a Volcano5 on my Tbird, 2 small 80mm fans (one intake fan, one exhaust) and NO cooling fan on my video card. Yet my system is fairly loud. To give you an idea, it can be heard over my old 600bb HD and my old 60gxp HD, it can be heard outside of my room when the door is fully closed...heck it makes about as much noise as my ceiling fan. I always thought it was the Volcano's fan but on a whim last nite while installing my new hd (el cheapo 80gb maxtor 8mb courtesy of hot deals!) I disconnected the CPU fan (!!!) and powered it up for 10 seconds. Sure enough, it was just as loud!!! Tried it with the case closed to make sure too! So then I disconnected one and then both case fans, and it was still loud.
Power supply is the culprit. I believe I'm currently using a Sparkle 400w (cheap.) Are there any good 400-450w P4/AMD Athlon XP approved PS that are really really quiet???
