I'm looking for a low noise PSU of 750W.
Money isn't an issue and I'd rather pay a bit extra for quality.

It will be poweing an ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE + 3770K CPU with some OC and SLI.

I have a Seasonic X-750 and it is silent. 80+ Gold certified. Modular PSU w/ Passive cooling under 20% load and a whisper quiet fan when it does kick on.

For me in normal Windows tasks(browsing, videos, etc) , it never comes on. The only time the fan runs is when I play a game. Then, I had to open my case and get near the psu to verify the fan was running.

It is fairly pricey, but worth the money. I would buy it again, if I had to.

It's still on sale at Newegg:

Bequiet Dark Power Pro p10 850w seems amazing - certanly a candidate. AX series as mentioned can get a little noisy on full throttle I've heard a couple of times.

Yikes, that 850 unit is really a 750 unit, look at the amperage on the 12v rail, it equals 760w. That is a sure sign of quality (or lack of it). Any of the PSU's recommended so far are good choices, though dont pay too much attention to 80plus, I read that its all a gimmick. The manufacturer cherry picks ONE psu to be tested and sends it out, if that meets requirements then they get to market the entire series as whatever they got (after paying a 2000$ fee) its all a marketing and moneymaking scheme. I would advise you to get my PSU, its name is silencer after all :p and it delivers all the power its rated for, plus it can go up to 850w for short periods of time without problems. 7yr warranty is nice too.

Given that the reason for a higher power power supply typically is for a video card, under load, the gpu will be much louder than any gold/platinum rated power supply's fan, so the ps will continue to be essentially silent.

Sorry, but that comment just made me laugh, esp. give what PCP&C used to put out as their Silencer line and the weedeater fan that was employed in them.

True, the "new" Silencers are much quieter, but no better than their contemporaries.

I used an old style PCPnC, the 100w turbocool I think it was called, and that thing had a single 80mm fan and it wanted you to know it. I could hear it across the room, but these new ones are nearly inaudible. Build quality is amazing too, PCpnC used to compete with seasonic from what I understand. Naturally everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I do think that the PSU I linked is the best choice.

Guess why?

If you guessed that Seasonic manufactured all the popular PCP&C PSUs for them using Seasonic internals and PCP&C chosen 80mm fans... YOU, SIR, WOULD BE CORRECT! :D

Generally speaking, prior to the OCZ acquisition (oh yeah did you know that PCP&C is now merely a "brand name?") the Turbo Cools were made by Wintact and the Silencers were made by Seasonic.

Guess how many PCP&C PSUs were made by PCP&C?

Very true in my case, and it is a low power card:thumbsdown:

Very interesting, I always thought PCPnC was a manufacturer of its own internals.

Would a Silencer Mk 2 be as good as the orignal ps or should I go with the SeaSonic X750.
I never liked Modular ps through.

I am using 930@4200,1.31v with a 5970 + 5870 using a orignal PC Power Silencer 750W .
I am going to remove the 5970 + 5870 and use them in a new IB build.

The PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W is 20 bucks cheaper plus comes with with free dvd which I will need.

The Mk2 is better than MK1, seasonic is amazing but as you said modular cables arent the best (thats why I got my PSU) its all up to you, both have great quality, the PCPnC has a DVD drive and a longer warranty but I do not expect either PSU to need replacing.
