I have noticed that some of the SATA cables that have come with ASUS MBs do not make a tight connection.. Can someone recommend an aftermarket cable that they have had good experiences with??

thanks..

I've used a lot of SATA cables from http://monoprice.com. Mostly, I use them on servers, and have had zero problem with them. You can also get cables with latches built in, which may or may not help your situation.

I got some with a gigabyte motherboard that have metal latches, really much better than using just the push on type.

The ones that came with my DS3-R had built-in metal latches...but if you don't have those I would go to monoprice for cables as RebateMonger has said...I recently got some AV cables from there and an IDE/SATA adaptor and shipping was super quick.

No to derail the thread but does anyone know if someone makes some sata power cables with a similar latch as the sata cable? The power cables that came with my corsair power supply come unhooked if my hand just brushes against them in the case.

Not sure if someone does on the power cables.
I use low temp hot glue anytime I want to secure cables inside the case.
Its too low temp to hurt the insulation and is easy to remove.

Yup.. me too... learned that hot glue trick working on the road doing outdoor movie shows. I just thought a latch would be that much more of an elegant solution for my builds, though.

Hopefully PS manufacturers will start putting latches on the power fittings..

lol, you would really think they would have thought of all of this before they developed the standards... what a contrast between the tight fitting SCSI and PATA connectors and Molex power connectors... I guess you can chalk it all up to progress :p

Something like these may stay hooked better.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16812123106 OOS right now.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16812119026 In stock.

Here's another:

And another (down the page a bit):

And if you are willing to spend more like in the old audiophile days, there is always Granite Digital cables part no. 1078 ...

Great post, Zepper, thx..

Funny, the pics SVC is showing of the combo cables do not display the latch they are saying they have.

YW. I don't think any of those combo cables have the metal clips for some reason probably because they are using the notebook SATA/power connectors which don't have them either.

I got some of those new Silverstone SATA cables, but the testing I've done don't show them to be any better than the other SATA 2 rated cables - my controllers are only SATA 150 anyhoo. One way to improve SATA cables would be to make them more flexible... Newegg is listing them at a dollar OVER MSRP right now... Tsk, tsk!

Hey OH,
Do those cables have the wire mfr's name printed on the cable itself? The external SATA cable on the CM 690 has the wire made by CoPartner as is the SATA cable on the bracket that came with the Silverstone MS05 external/internal notebook drive enclosure. It's more flexible than most I've had here.

And did you catch my latest bon mot? It's in this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=37&threadid=2125221 .

Just in time. I really needed a laugh today!

No markings on those cables that I can see. They kinda feel like a nice, soft, stick of gum. Although my upper bridge won't let me chew gum anymore, I remember what a fresh stick of Beemans felt like.

I don't have to remember as we still can get Beemans, BlackJack, etc. around here, at least occasionally.
