Looking for a program to record audio tracks for compiling a song

My younger brother is wanting me to find him some sort of software/soundcard combo that he could use to record tracks on his computer, like one guy play a guitar, one play a drum, one singing to it after the music is laid down. I'm not a musician by any stretch of the imagination. He doesn't really need a 1000 dollare setup, since its bascially some high school kids having fun. I have an sb live with digital ins and outs for him, but I'm not even sure if this card is capable of doing what we want. I would imagine there is some sort of software or programs around that aid in doing this. Any help would be wonderful.

You don?t need to look for a combo card software; most of programs make it their business to work with SoundBlaster cards.

This is relatively simple shareware, free to try.

n-Track Studio

http://fasoft.com/download.shtm

n-Track Studio is an audio & MIDI multitrack digital audio recorder for
Windows 95, 98, 2000 & NT.

For more sophisticated staff, log to http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products/, they have many programs for specific recording purposes, and some demos.

Well with a livedrive I have a digital in (2 channels) line-in 2 channels, mic in 2 channels, line-in#2 2 channels. So with a SBLive Platinum I could record 8 individual mono tracks (all music is recorded as mono and mixed into a stereo soundscape, well except live performances or classical)

CoolEdit Pro is very good, 64-track editor. You can find it at www.syntrillium.com, but its shareware that can't save. But once you get it you know what to do:)

I think that you will find that, at $35 bucks, N-track can do everything that your brother will ever need.

Ok thanks for the opinions guys, but I'm confused amongest all the reccommendations. Which is a great program that is easy to use and doesn't have the learning curve of the assembly language..haha.

Thanks!
