Looking for a program to enhance scanned text doccuments

Basically, I've got couple hundred copies of deeds and other legal documents that I can barely read because they're all copies off microfiche (the only source available to me). So... what I'm looking for is any program that will allow me to scan these documents and then enhance the text on them so they're legible. Does anything like this exist? I'll be eternally greatful to anyone who knows of such a program. Trust me, you will save me many headaches 🙂
