Ok, I have 2 computers in my bedroom. My main machine running Win98SE and my machine that acts as a server running Win2k Pro. The problem is that I only have one monitor, one mouse, and one keyboard. So when I wanna do anything on the Win2k machine, I have to unhook all 3 from the Win98SE machine, and attach them to the Win2k machine, and then back to the 98 machine when finished, this is a pain. Is there a way I can execute a desktop shortcut that starts my quake 2 server on my Win2k machine, from my Win98 machine? I would like to do this at my command, and not set it to come on at a certain time all the time. Do I have to get a program like PcAnywhere? Will that even do it? Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks! Also, could I just make a shortcut on my Win98 machine's desktop that points to the Win2k machine, would that work that way? Thanks again! Also, I can shut down the program remotely from within the quake 2 game. So all I need is to be able to start the program, that's it.

You may want to invest in a KVM switch (keyboard/video/mouse). A 2-port linksys runs about $70 with cables and will allow you to switch between the two computers with a button on the switch or a hotkey.

Otherwise, give a shot at VNC. It's a remote-access application much like PCAnywhere, but it is freeware and works quite well over a LAN.

You can just make a shortcut on your 98 machine's desktop to the q2 server. The path will be something along the lines of \\<2k machine name>\<name of shared dir with q2 server executable and/or path to that executable>\<name of executable>.exe; make sure your permissions are right for you to access the 2k machine from your 98 machine and it should work just fine.

Also, about permissions. When I right click on C:, or any drive, under Windows Explorer in Win2k, and look under sharing, when I try to click permissions it gives me a message like "This folder(or something) is being shared for administrative purposes, etc." and won't let me even get to the permissions screen. I'm logged in as Administrator if that matters. Is there anyway I can fix this? I've added a user to my Win2k machine, other than the administrator, which I'll use from my 98SE machine, but how do I give that user permissions to specific folders, or just my whole machine? Thanks.
