Hey all,

im looking to find a place to order a 1.2ghz tbird (one of the new ones with the 266 bus)
Anyone had any good luck ordering from somewhere?

As a side note, if i can find it paired with a good hsf (like an alpha... im not looking for top of the line = loud cooling) thats a bonus. I can order seperate, but if i can find it in one place, all the more cool.

I'll tell you that I bought my 1.2 266mhz at Componentsdirect.com, and I wish that I hadn't. Customer support was poor, and when I contacted them to see if the processor had shipped, they had forgotten about my order altogether and gave some bs excuse and only then shipped it.

The guys at AMDzone.com have highly recommeded Thompsons Computer Warehouse at TCWO.com. They are reasonable, reliable (I'm told) and have flat shipping for $6.95. One of the guys who hangs at the AMDzone bbs is a tech at Thompsons. Wish I'd ordered from there.

I've done business with TCWO many times. Never a problem with those folks. They have always shipped within 24-48 hrs. :)

fticomputer.com I got the same chip for like $225 + $20 for UPS 2 day shipping (i was in a hurry :) ). I paid like $250 for everything and the chip is a week 7 AXIA. This was less than week ago so I bet if you order now you'd get an AXIA too. It comes w/ a 1 year dealer warrenty too. I highly recommend them even though their online status still shows my order as "processing" even though I received the chip on wednesday :)

Well yucky, I'd have to disagree.

I think I can say this in an unbiased light because my work has a great rating and I'm actually mentioned by name several times in a positive light, so technically I feel I have nothing to lose, and here I am going to say that Reseller Ratings is bunk.

Customers don't often have a thing to say unless it's bad.

Let's take Buy.com for example. I've ordered from them five times with no issues. this last time, however, I received two switches that were package ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLY. I fired off as negatively as possible (making sure to not place blame where it did not belong, because I know how it feel to be blamed for something that another dept screwed up). Does that mean I would not order from Buy.com again? Heck no. Should I have given some positive feedback for the times I had no problems? Probably, yes. But if you look at the ratio: I've complained about them once and said praise about them never. Is that fair? Honestly, no.

Well johnnyguru I'd have to disagree. Reseller ratings does serve it's intended purpose. You'll find many positive comments from customers about the people they've purchased from. But just like reading the advice on this (and other) forums you've got to be astute enough to know what to accept and what parts to disregard. If you take the bad and good reports the truth will likely be somewhere in the middle. Kind of like separating the wheat from the chaff :)

That's cool. We'll just have to disagree on this.

It's just that when I do see negative feedback on reseller ratings, it's usually pretty believable stuff, but because I know a lot of it is not true because I work in the industry. There's always more to the story. That, and my issue: The other times I bought from Buy.com, I've had no problems. I didn't say anything about it because I EXPECT a company to not screw up, but I know better than almost anyone else that companies DO screw up and often learn from their mistakes.

But I suppose if you don't have a system like Reseller Ratings, what do you have? Bizrate? Yeah , right! They want you to rate the company after you place your order, but before you receive it. Gee, what do I have to say about the company... I found what I was looking for on the website and it was easy to navigate? What about timely shipping and good support and what if I need an RMA? At least Reseller Ratings has a realistic view of the vendors: After the transaction is complete.

I suppose I just need to start PRAISING these companies I buy from that don't screw up and level the playing field. I've always been told that the disgruntled customer is the one that makes the most noise, and never found myself any different.

And Stan: You of all people can't spell my name right? :|

Newegg has them. Good prices too. I'll probably be getting a 1.2ghz 266 tbird and a MSI k7t-turbo from them soon.
