Looking for a pci slot fan (exhaust)

Well, I recently just realized they actually made these...yes, i'm slow, and I was wonderning if anyone could recommend one?

I saw one on newegg, but it only moved like...10cfm.

Before you say they're pointless, i dont care. I have extra money to spend and I heard they can do good things. No, I can't get a new case or more fans or anything...the only suggestion i want from anyone is what i asked.

So if you can find an inexpensive one (hopefully less than $10) that moves a good bit of air, tell me. Sound isn't a huge problem, but it'd be nice if it wasn't too loud.

Thanks

Check the FS/FT board.

Also, if you want this for your graphics card, it has been proven that it is actually more beneficial to remove the fan and to only use the plastic shell as a cool air shroud.

I've never heard of that, but I'm not sure if I could see that working...could you explain a little better? and where did you find that exactly?

I can't use the FS/FT board because i have gmail. or something.

I just wondered if any body knew about a good pci slot fan

One like the FP-2000-B. Take the fan out and it helps more than with a fan. It was tested and perscribed on HardForum.

Safeway, care to provide a link to that? I can't seem to find it.

and tasburrfoot78362, thanks for the link 😀

Well, I'm not exactly trying to cool just my graphics card. My case has very small vents on the bottom of one side of the case, less near the front and on the front, and i have just one big fan on the back of the computer (not sure if its 120mm or not, or whether it's blowing in or out) and of course the PSU fan that sorta blows air out.

So, my case is still rather cool somehow, but i wouldn't mind the extra airflow and i'm not just concerned about the 6600gt.

Plus, i'm not too convinced to take the fan out because i dont see any numbers that compare the temp decreases.

Edit: Well, I think I saw the thread...still no numbers, but now i'm not sure if i want this to be exclusively for my 6600gt, or if i'd rather it have the fan in and suck air out...hrm...dunno.

Personally I would stay away from those fans altogether!!
I would never remove the fan on my video card and just run with one of those pieces of junk!!

I found at one of the local PC stores where I live a nice dual plastic fan that fits in the PCI slot and moves approx 20-30+cfm!!

It was realtively inexpensive...under $20....and it also had a fan speed control on it that you could adjust if need be!!

I'm probably getting one of those soon, I'll let you guys know how it works.

I think you misunderstood. You take the fan out of the pci slot cooler, not the video card. That way, the slot cooler is more like a vent that goes straight to the video card, giving it a chance to get its own fresh air from outside of the case.

I think the card you mentioned blows air in the case, not out, correct? does it get the air from outside?

So now im deciding between the three of these options

1. Get a pci slot cooler, leave the fan in for my whole system in general (i've seen some good numbers)
2. Get a pci slot cooler, take the fan out just for my video card (my system is lacking air flow but I would like the card to be cooler)
3. get one of those vectrum cards that i think blows air in (in not, correct me)...which, would be kinda pointless i think if it doesnt get air from the outside...i dont know...

So, which would probably be the best for my system since i wont be able to install more fans or get a new case or etc?

looks very interesting, I might order one today. They're 25 on Tigerdirect, 18 on NewEgg

i have a pci slot blower too but the hole for the fan on the slot blower doesnt seem to be long enough to reach under the graphic cards fan nicely. basically the hole of my pci slot blower isnt exactly under the graphic cards fan. so that might not work out too well. i have this blower fan
http://www.jab-tech.com/customer/product.php?productid=2952&cat=145&page=1

but they do have this http://www.jab-tech.com/customer/product.php?productid=3044&cat=145&page=1
that pushes air onto the video card from the outside. and its long enough too. i have already spent a lot of money on blower fans but ide also like to know the best configuration for my video card. would the blower fan i have be sufficient?

Wow thats a good decrease! thanks Safeway for the link!

Now, I have a leadtek 6600gt as shown below...I'd like to do this whole take out the fan thing, but i'd like the thing to fit right for my card (or have little modding needed)...so, i wonder which "cooler" to get...

yea, thats what im thinkin too. the vcool looks good cuz its long enough to fit over the gpu unit unlike the super cyclone which is kinda short and if you want, you can even shorten the vcool to the super cyclone length. only thing we have to decide is, would it be better to turn the fan off and rip it out? after all, air blowing on the gpu would be better then just providing fresh air to it right? or is it really even necessary to have this thing under it. i think i may just forget the whole thing and not put a slot blower and rely on my zalman vf700cu to cool it down and thats it.

Yeah....23db is probably low. But after some digging, I determined that is a fan made by Yate Loon, makers of Nexus quiet fans. For the price it's worth a try.

Mine was slightly to long for my application....so I took the slot bezel off and removed 1" from the plastic housing, and glued it back together. 😀

Yate loon link.....model PC-A2
