Greetings.

I'm looking for a power supply for the following build:

C2D E8400 E0
Gigabyte EP45-DS3R
4870 1GB
2x2GB
2xWD6400AAKS
1 optical drive

I'm shooting for max overclock I can get out of a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 - gussing somewhere around 450-500 FSB at 9x multiplier. Not looking to go crazy with any of the voltages.

What would be a good quality yet reasonably priced power supply, if I want to:

1) Upgrade to a pair of 4870s later
2) Stick with a single 4870 until my next new build

I'm seeing a NeoHE 550 for $50 at Frys. Would that do for seconario 2?

Thanks!

If you're planning on running a crossfire setup with such high end cards(from what I'm seeing, I'm guessing they take a lot of power), you'll definitely want to look at a PSU with a higher rated wattage. A smart PSU wouldn't hurt either - one that adjusts things based on temperatures and other factors. Most power supplies do this now. I'd recommend at least that 550w you're looking at - I'm not quite sure how well It'd handle a dual card setup, but those cards seem pretty powerful so I think it's safe to assume they'll need a lot of wattage.

What exactly is your price range?
