Another vote for the Sansa Clip. Small, cheap, good battery life, easy to use, good sound quality.

My only complaint about using an ipod touch, since I have used my iPhone in my car(with a connection kit) is that it locks you out of the music player interface once the connection is made and forces you to use the car controls. I am not sure if all ipod connections do this, but mine did. Not that big a deal when I am driving, but if I passenger wants to browse through music and play stuff, its more of a hassle. There is a jailbreak app that fixes this, but I am not sure if the latest ipod touch has a jailbreak on iOs 5.

It can go either way, I know I recently installed a new receiver in my car and by default the iPod's interface was locked when connected to the USB port. However through one of the option menus there was a setting I could change which enabled it. As of now I can make adjustments by touching either the receiver itself or the iPod, which is perfect for me. I can't say whether that's iPod exclusive or if other USB MP3 players would have the same functionality on the same unit or not.

I went with a Sony CDX-GT565UP.

ipod touch through aux. input. Take your touch with you as a pocket computer. Use genius playlist generator so you don't have to fool with the device. If you do, the iPod interface is easy enough to use while driving (be careful). I prefer it to Ford Sync's screen controls (don't know about myfordtouch).

I have been using my iPod touch for podcasts for a couple of years now for my 45+ minute commute. Have to handle it to start 2 podcasts each way usually, or I just tune to the radio for morning edition on NPR if too risky to handle the ipod to start a new podcast. I carry it into work to crank music in the laboratory (flight simulator prototype). Love the genius playlist generator.

Well, I was bouncing back and forth between some sort of ipod or the Sansa Clip+. Turns out Newegg has a sale on a recertified 4GB Clip+ for $25 free shipping, and I've got a 4GB microsd card just laying around so it looks like I can expand it.

I'm gonna buy that for the hell of it since it's so cheap, and if I'm not happy with it or it winds up something is wrong with it, I'll just go for an ipod. Let the gambling begin!
