Looking for a new video card...

Hello,

I am getting ready to buy a new video card. Right now I am looking at the GeForce 3 series (the normal one or the ti's) and the Radeon 8500. I would like to keep the price under $250, maybe $280 if it is really worth it. I've looked at the AT stuff about this, and I was fixed on the GeForce 3 TI 200. Then I see the radeon with its new drivers, and I see that it is priced under $200! I am looking for something that will keep me satisfied for a long time, and I think all of these could do the trick. What I'm wondering is if their real-world performance is noticably different. Is the Radeon 8500 really better than the GF 3 TI 500? Which of the cards (or others, if you know of other good cards I haven't mantioned) would be great for a gamer who loves high-res and high-quality gaming?

Thanks in advance :)

8500. :)

EDIT* BTW i'm not an ATI fanatic... i actually own a GF3... but i've had an ATI in the past... the only thing i didn't like was driver updates but it seems as though they will take care of that soon... if they haven't already.

Akerman, any reason for the Ti 500? It costs a bit more than the 8500, and the 2 are very even (except for unreal tournament :disgust: ) . I also would understand just that NVidia has a good reputation and driver support. Good to see a differing opinion, thanks a lot.

Thanks,
Mike

<< Ti500 :p >>

if they were priced in the ~$250 range, this would definitely be my pick. but seeing how well priced the 8500 is and how ati has promised regular driver updates that so far looks good, i'd pick the 8500.
