I'm looking for a new board with all the bells and whistles. It looks like DFI and Abit are the two favorite boards with most people. The NF7-s V2 can be had for $67 after a rebate that is ending today. That seems like a pretty good deal to me.

What do you think if you were buyinng today what would you pick?

thanks

I hadn't even looked at the Asus, it seems like it has it all and the price is good. I guess I should have stated that I have an Epox 8RDA+ that I'm replacing. I'll be installing a 2500 Barton with 512 MB of OCZ PC 3200 (2X256). This is a second machine that is mostly used for internet and some light gaming (Sims, Civ III., Age of Empires, Everquest) by my son. I'm picking up a DVD burner so we will use it at times to do some video work and burn DVD's.

thanks

I got hte DFI lanparty NFII and it kicks ass. but they are a little pricey. However the infinity series is the exact same thing without the special colors or all the accesssories. DFI makes the best overclocking boards out there hands down. Oh, and they come with firewire.

Looks like the A7N8X-E & the DFI lanparty NFII have about the same options, and would probably do a great job. I currently have a P4C800E-dx which has been a great board so Asus would have a point in it's favor with me. The DFI lanparty NFII will overclock better if I wanted to take it up a notch, so that's a point in it's favor. I don't know if it's worth $40 more though?

Any body else have an option, I'd like to order something today so I could put it together next weekend.

thanks

Seems like a good deal to me too. I'd prolly get it. See my sig, I'm very happy with it.

I've got a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra, that was mentioned above, it would be my secong choice.
It actually WAS my second choice, I got one about 6 months ago for $55 (it's current price). Also note that it doesn't have the Sounstorm.

The DFI interests me. I hear good things about it and am interested in it's OC potential. I haven't had a chance to try one out yet. But that doesn't seem to be the purpose here and it's not on sale as AFAIK.

Watch out for dfi I rma'd 4 0f them because they kept killing my hdds.
asus is rock solid at up to 2.3 2.4 ghz but for stability I choose the abit.
Asus has the best sound hands down though imo.

$67 for an ABIT NF7-S ver.2.0 or a 127.00 DFI LanParty, no brainer get the ABIT!!!! IMO it was a better board to begin with, plus it cost half as much. I have owned two of these and they are a joy to work with, they have all the features you could need, OC like an SOB, and the SoundStorm is unbelievable!!!

GET THE ABIT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to go for the Abit, just couldn't pass up the $69 deal. Also scored a Advueu ADV175B 17" LCD and a Pioneer DVR 108 Burner. It should make for a nice system.

Thanks for all the imput, when I get it installed I'm sure I'll be asking for OC'ing tips. Let the fun begin! For those of you that have had or currently have this board all suggestions are welcome.

thanks

I've got it up and running and so far so good.

I haven't done much OC'ing in the past so this is pretty new territory for me. I've got the memory running at 200mhz and the multipler set to 10x on the cpu for a core speed of 2004.6mhz, I'm running Prime 95 right now and it seems to be doing OK.

OK all you OC'in gurus what next??:)

The A7N8X is a great board, and super stable. It's running my 2500+ desktop Barton at 2.2GHz right now like it's nothing and my board is one of the old rev. 1.4 boards that was built before a 400MHz FSB was officially supported in the AXPs. Even after I upgrade to an A64 based system in the next year or so, I'm planning to keep the A7N8X move the into a Coolermaster Cavalier 2 case, slap on a WinTV PVR card and a pair of big honking SATA hard drives in RAID-0 make a media center system out of it to record my TV shows. If that works out, the $150 I spend on it a year and a half ago was a great investment.

The LanParty boards are super sweet, though. If I hadn't bought my A7N8X so soon after it came out, I would have gone for the Lan Party mainly for all the extra stuff you get. $127 bucks is a good price for the PC Transpo and all the other goodies you get (just wish they'd pack in a black version of the FrontX panel - who the heck puts a Lan Party board in a beige box?)

I'm running the ABIT "NF7-S" v2 here with a 2400+M @2.4GHz. Rock solid overclocking board. Bought mine off newegg at a " low " $83.00 shipped a while ago and couldn't be happier. Good luck with yours.
