Looking for a new smartphone

My Iphone 3G bricked on thurs, apple won't do anything about it. I'm out of a 2 year contract already, so I'm looking for something decent to replace it. Doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles, but I want something with decent GPS and a decent MP3 player. Wife wants a camera with a flash. Don't care about droid or WP7, would kinda prefer not to have another Iphone (tired of going through all the hoops of trying to sync itunes on a PC, useless program). Help me do my HW, I need a phone stat!

Do you plan to stay with at&t? Do you have something that can hold you for a week or two? If you can wait a week or two I'd say either a Samsung Focus S (for WP7) or a Samsung Galaxy S II (for Android).

I was hoping to get it in the next few days, but we'll see. I'd be willing to wait to get a decent phone, but I suspect the brand new ones will be out of my price range...I didn't want to spend more than $100 each with a 2 year contract.

How do those phones compare to the captivate? Isn't the captivate just the galaxy 1?

The SGS2 is pretty much the best you can get on AT&T right now, if thats where you want to go. Its a damn good phone, by all accounts and reviews.

The SGS2 is significantly better than the Captivate. Dual core CPU, more RAM, better screen, better build quality, working GPS, etc.

Damn. It looks pretty awesome, supposed to be released on sunday. Any idea what it's going to cost with a 2 year contract? I'm looking and can't find it.

edit: nm, found it, $200 w/ 2 yr contract

If you are willing to wait and spend the extra money, go with the SGS2.

I got a Motorola Atrix several months ago and I've been happy with it. It was $100 with a 2 year contract.

Look for deals on Amazon, Best Buy or Radio Shack, they usually discount it even further. Just don't change your plan for 6 months, else you pay additional ETF.

If you go with the Infuse (don't go with the Infuse) be sure to allow yourself extra money for an aftermarket battery. No sarcasm intended, just pure, unadulterated, hot, sweaty, sexy, fact.

The more I look at it, the more I'm leaning towards the Atrix or the LG Thrill. Seems like a decent phone, I'll check them out in store tomorrow if possible. The Atrix is probably better, but I want to see it in my hands before I can exorcise the demon that was my POS razor.

We ended up going with the Atrix last night. I like it, snappy, much more responsive than the 3G, faster overall, and seems pretty cool.

Just need to get used to the interface...wife is going to want to customize her UI a lot, she doesn't like having like 4 different screens...I'm open to any idea on how to moneky around with these things.

Good choice! 🙂 I really like my Atrix. Have you downloaded the update to Gingerbread (2.3.4)?

This was my first smartphone, so I spent a lot of time going through the Help App to figure things out.
