I'm looking for a .308 caliber rifle and I would love for it to be under 1,500 USD [not including scope] and this will be used to shoot targets upwards of 600m and I still want to be able to hunt deer, elk and so on forth at realistic distance of 200-300m. I am looking for the flexiblity of a hunting rifle but the precision of the LR [Long Range] Target shooting rifle. And my only requirement is that it is a bolt-action and weights less than 15 lbs.

What make/model would u suggest that I get? Realistic suggestions only please.

Winchester Model 70

Remington Model 700

I have both and they are excellent rifles.

Don't forget Sako.

The Finns know how to make very good guns.

Specific recomendation: Sako 75 Stainless Synthetic in .308

Bolt or semi-auto?

Fully auto.

With full auto he'll be lucky to hit any targets at 200m let alone at 600m.

To OP, if you're dead set on .308, I'd recommend a nice M14. Thay are still used by many branches as sniper rifles and for a good reason.

I'd say the Remington 700 - the police version is kind of a neat rifle - Don't know about its weight though.

I have a Ruger M77 in .30-06, and it is super accurate. I think the Ruger safety is amongst the best as far as ergonomics and function. As a 3rd and more expensive choice, the Sako is hard to beat. They make some of the most beautiful rifles in the world, but I hunt with mine, and put few rounds through it - so its beauty is really not key to me. My ruger is a stainless with a laminated stock.

Rifle
Scope

The rifle can be bought for about $800 depending where you're at. Mount that scope in some Leupold Dual Dovetail rings and bases (~$40) and you'll have everything wrapped up for $1500. I just bought 2 of the Long Range 6.5-20x40mm Leupold scopes with the Varmint Hunter reticles and they are sweet. I plan on buying a couple of those Boone and Crockett reticle models like the one above for a couple of my big game rifles soon.

bushmaster ar-15 type a2.

perfect for everything. if you can't hit a target in the chest @ 500 yards without scope. you need to learn how to shoot.

I'd much prefer something with more energy and some glass for his intended useage.

I've heard nothing but bad about the 710.

The Remington 700 would be perfect for what you're looking for. They're solid rifles. My Dad has one in .243 Winchester and it's a supurb varmiting rifle.
