Looking for a new, reliable, cheap 2TB drive

So I'm having problems with my current drive and feel it's time to get a new drive. I'd like something with a 2TB capacity, but need to keep it about $140 or cheaper with reliability being king above all else, can anyone recommend a good drive within those parameters?

thanks in advance!

I'm not sure there are any. Newegg.com reviews look pretty sad for ALL the 2TB disks reviewed there.

As always, backups will greatly lessen the chance of losing important data.

The problem with 2TB drives at the moment is the platter density -> number of platters. IIRC, 666/667 GB is the current cap for a single platter, meaning that you still need three platters for 2TB. I personally try to stick to two platters tops.

One platter is a bit of a waste, two platters is ideal, and three or more platters is a gamble. IMHO, YMMV. 🙂

These two drives have worked for me without fail. I own 2 of the green in RAID 1 and 3 of the Black two of which are in RAID 0. The blacks might be out of your price range but the greens are fairly cheep.

Just so you know though I put all my drives through a Diagnostics test before even putting them to use. I usually start off with an extended read test then several full write tests then followed up but another read. Granted they can still fail after that but it does help lower the risk.
