Looking for a new Project for my work Fleet

OK all here is the deal:

I have 12 P4 2.8's(no HT) at work that are currently running SETI. I am looking for something to replace SETI when it goes down. Here is my problem: No Internet. So here is what I need:

1. Service install
2. Sneakernet capability
3. Prefer some time of queueing or gathering program so I dont have to go to each machine
4. I have to be able to queue around 30-45 days worth of work at a time.
5. Oh yeah the queue has to either be a service or only run to gather wu's.

So is there any hope? I have thought about SB or DPAD but not sure about making those work. SB would work if Ken_g6's Queuing program was a service install. not sure about DPAD though.

I know Folding has a good service install, and I thought I heard mentions of WU queuing...

You can also service install BOINC, and set the queue pretty high. Or you could run CPDN which takes a long time for each WU. But the downloads are fairly large. Is this on dialup? And it can also create fairly sluggish machines. 😉

Folding@Home doesn't allow queuing of current WUs, only the timeless ones. I don't think it's a good project for B.

DPAD meets all requirements, the only thing I'm not sure about is the service install. I mean, you can have DPAD crunch for a year without connection if you want to - unless there's a version jump and the old results need to be sent in.

CPDN is indeed a good option, but that really depends on the ammount of work these P4 do and on their RAM. CPDN is indeed a very demanding DC project. For other BOINC projects, I don't think that you can set the queue so high. I only know SETI, R@H, E@H and LHC@H, and they only allowed for a maximum of 14 days of cache.

So far the only promising option is DPAD. I can't use BOINC since these have no internet connection. (Hence requirement #2😛)

Is there any queueing or gathering program for DPAD?

DPAD will be great option since no work is downloaded.. 😀

Evolution@home is a bit more difficult to run.. the running client needs to be stopped by hand before the pc can be rebooted otherwise work is lost.. But it is still a great project!!

SBQueue can be run as a command line program, so I think it could be ready for a service install. But I have no idea how to actually implement that.

When running as a command-line (or service), another SBQueue GUI (or even command-line) can be launched to gather WUs.

F@H can queue up to ten current deadlineless WUs that are benchmarked just like all other regular WUs.

They would not take 30-45 days to crunch on those P4s.

I don't know of a gathering program.

F@H will not meet your requirements for these computers 🙁

The BOINC client can be installed as a service but I think the most you can set it for to gather new work units is to set it to 10 days. With that you can run any number of different things.

I'm running Predictor@Home just because SETI was broken when I was getting into the BOINC thing so I didn't do it. Plus I think the protein stuff is more useful than the alien stuff.

But I'm not sure what Sneakernet is or how you'd go online to get the WUs. Unless you'd get them on another copmuter and then copy them to that one... never tried that.

Yeah but I cant run BOINC due to no internet connection. I will most likely try SB or DPAD. F@H is still a possibility but I am doing more research.

Is UD still going? I know at one point it had a queueing program. But I remember something about cheating and database problems. Any insight?

Be good to see you in DPAD 🙂 ,I'll be crunching that again once S@H1 has ended.
There aren't all that many of us here but I'm sure a DPAD thread would draw their attention 🙂
Unfortunatly I'm a newbie at DPAD so I can't answer your questions 🙁
