Hi guys,

I am looking for a new monitor. I am currently using a Viewsonic VA712b which is a couple years old and a TN panel. (also not widescreen.)

I am looking for a 22" or bigger monitor. I have read up on the different panel types and even looked at the monitor reccomendation thread in this forum.

My current monitor tends to cause a lot of eyestrain for me as the backlight seems super bright and i can see flickering on my desktop or large blocks of similar colour.

I was wondering if this is becaue of the TN panel? I mostly use my monitor for gaming and I might like to use it connected to an xbox 360 as well.

Price is not a huge factor and if a monitor is really good I can see paying more. Ideally I would like an IPS panel if this will reduce eyestrain from the problems i mentioned above. However I would like to keep reccomendations to a reasonable price point. Ideally 300-400 dollars although I can see myself paying more for a really standout monitor.

Hey man,

I was looking at that exact panel, looked great to me the only thing I was scared about was potentially having my eyes being bothered again by it because its a TN panel. Again I dont know if this would be a reality or not. They have a sale on this monitor where I live and I can get it for $300 ( 70 dollars off) but I cant get any dead pixel warranty on it. Seems to be having some issues with dead pixels so im somewhat hesitant as well because of that.

Anyone else have any opinions?

A little while ago the obvious answer would have been the Dell 2209WA, but seems to be sold out: 3-5 weeks. By the time new displays arrive, who knows if they will be IPS.

For $500ish, you could get the HP LP2475w. I might pull the trigger myself if the price drops below $500. Currently $508 at Provantage.

I would recommend you going in to check it out live if you are worried via some demo unit. I can't say if it is going to bother you or not but its worth seeing.
