i want to get a new monitor for gaming and i was looking at getting an IPS monitor. I am willing to have more input lag to have better colors. One that i have been really looking at is the Acer S275HL. It has a 6 ms response time. I want to know if this will really be noticeable in gaming. Can you guys just please give me some advice.

None of the IPS monitors, even with overdrive, actually have an effective ms lower than 25, even if they are claiming 6 or whatever. They are basically citing the lowest black-to-black numbers between two colors, when in reality the average response time grey-to-grey is in the mid-20s.

Without overdrive/over-volting the real response time IPS is even worse, like 35-to-45-ish.

I have two screens: an old Samsung TN panel Syncmaster 943 that states it has a 5ms response time and a newer LG IPS panel Flatron IPS234 that states it has a 5ms response time (it's also a pretty cheap buy, so, suggestion, suggestion).

I have VERY CLEAR ghosting and whatnot on the TN 5ms, and none of it on the IPS 5ms. It might come down to how good the screen actually is, but if I had to say, I'd say my IPS has a faster response time than the TN, despite both stating the same response time.

So, there, my experience.

I don't doubt Astrallite, technically it's probably true, but as a gamer and a competitive gamer at that, my new IPS is miles ahead of my old TN. Worlds apart. It blows the other into the middle of the last decade.
