Hello,

Thinking about buying a Monitor. Had been considering the Samsung Pebble 22" and the HP W2207h. My initial preference was the Samsung. But after having a hands on experience of both at PCWorld, I must admit I am leaning more towards the HP. The design and the adjustable stand is just superb. I know the Samsung has faster refresh rates of 2ms as opposed to the 5ms of the HP one but I am not sure how much practical difference will that make. I use my pc for some FPS gaming, watching movies and mostly for browsing.

Any one has any comments on these two models? I am looking for both good and bad experience. Thanks in advance.

I have always preferred Samsung monitors. I don't know why really, but I somehow feel more comfortable with them. I currently have The 245BW 24" 5ms LCD and I like it alot.

When I shopped for a monitor a few months back, I considered the Samsung 226BW and HP w2207. I ended up with the HP w2207 because of the bright and vibrant color it produces. The built in USB ports are convenience as well. I enjoy looking at this monitor everytime I'm on the computer. It is money well spent.

calibrate a Samsung and it will look as good more likely than not.

It's hard to see the difference calibration makes without bringing it home and playing with it. You then can't do direct comparisons. We have to go on specs or user reports which can be conflicting and/or confusing.

Thanks for the replies. I have been googling and there seems to be mixed preference to virtually every TFT monitors. Of course there are technical issues like dead pixels, back light bleed, color saturation and response time etc, and then there is matter of aesthetics and personal bias. Not to forget the panel lottery ( the actual tft panel of the 2207h is made by 3 companies - LG, Samsung and I think innolux???). Which one you will end up with is pot luck.

I bought myself this monitor for Christmas. I don't know how I got along on a 19" as long as I did. I don't think this would be the monitor of choice for the OP because it's not the best for cinematics with the issue of black scale(see the reviews listed on link). It's great for gaming and web surfing though. If you don't absolutely have to watch movies on your PC or you are not supremely nitpicky, I would highly recommend this monitor.
