Been keeping an eye out for a new job since my current job might be getting cut due to downsizing. (A portion of our company is looking to sell off part of the business).

In my current position, I'm maxed out on my salary pay scale. Other than cost of living increases, I'm pretty much fixed until I retire. I saw an opening that starts off paying less, but eventually in 2-3 years, I'll match my current salary. In 4-6 years, I'll surpass it which also includes cost of living increases. Is it worth accepting the position, assuming I'm offered the position?

Genuinely curious, how did you come to this sort of conclusion? Is it a fixed pay scale? What field?

I'm going from local to state government position which both are a fixed pay scale. I'll have to do some more verifying, but I'll assume like in my current position, each step is automatic based on anniversary date. Now with the state, there are additional pay increases after "stepping out", but it's dependent on a two year performance review.
