Okay, i've been looking about getting a new video card to replace my tiring old 550ti, which feels like it's getting choked up now, i have done a bit of research and compiled a list which has me deadlocked and very confused now about which card to go for here are my options,

now from a little research here is my options

GTX 760
GTX 680
GTX 670
GTX 660 ti
GTX 660
HD 7970
HD 7950
R9 270X
HD 7870

my budget for video card is about 190 that may stretch to maximum of 250 (UK pounds)

Or to put basically price ranges

130-150GBP - GTX 660 + 7870
150-180GBP - HD 7950 GTX 660TI 7870 GHZ
180-220 - HD 7970 GTX 760 (Possibly 680) GTX 670
220-250 - GTX 680

No intentions of SLI or Xfire i would rather a single card.

now my build

Intel core i7 3770k
GIGABYTE Z68 AP-D3
16GB RAM
1TB Barracuda

okay now, requirements and that for the new card

I use a Dell U2412M Monitor, at 1920X1200, Single monitor i use and don't intend multi monitor,

Games i play/will play + What i want from the card

Team fortress 2 - High/Max + Mods + Configs (For maximum/better graphics) effectively squeeze the absolute best from the game

GTA IV - High/Max + Enhancers

Garrys mod - Max

Skyrim - Max + Enhancers And mods (If there is any?)

Natural Selection 2 - Max

F1 2011 - Max

Minecraft - (Lol :DDDD) Absolute max.

That's examples of games i will play there are a few others but i don't want to drag the list too long

Programs i will use

Livestream Encoder - Video streaming, don't know if the GPU will come into play here but i would like to Livestream very pretty @w@

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Photoshop (CS5 or CS3)

Adobe Flash

SAI

So yeah sorry for the long post, If TL:DR (Too Long Didn't read)

I'll just put

Best graphics card for 190-250GBP
OR

GTX 680 vs HD 7970 vs GTX 660TI VS HD 7950 vs R9 270X Vs GTX 670 vs GTX 660 vs GTX 760 vs HD 7870 GHZ vs HD 7870

Danke X) :D!.

Also to add on

What if i sneak in the GTX 580 which is Priced around the HD 7870GHZ and 660/660ti range.

Budget preferences are - Would like to keep costs low, 170 For the tasks above would be ideal, as i am looking to invest in getting a New sound card + SSD + New PSU (REQUIRED) + New Fan and paste, so anything that can be shaved off the budget with minimum performance sacrifice would be ideal

So far i'm leaning more into the 7950.

Also forgot to mention

Windows 7 Ultimate + Linux Mint, I heard there was some waffle about Nvidia drivers for Linux so that has made me wary.

The 7950 in your ideal price range would probably be best, but the 660Ti would probably do better for Adobe programs. Although, if you can get a GTX 760 at the prices you mention, that would be a good card to go with, especially if you can get the MSI Gaming one as it runs very quiet (near silent under load) and is faster than the 660Ti. Gaming wise, it is on par with the 7950 unless you overclock the 7950.

There is nothing wrong with Nvidia Linux drivers, btw. It's just they are not open source, so it irks Linux folk. I don't use Linux, but from what I've read they are perfectly stable and are actually preferred over AMD drivers.

Adobe uses OpenCL for any GPU accelerated tasks. So the 7950 having a lot more compute power would be quite a bit faster than a 660.

As for linux drivers, nVidia has better closed source drivers, AMD has better open source drivers (AMD no longer has an updated closed source driver)

Well i noticed from looking at some benchmarks

670 KO'ed both 660 and 660ti counterpart, and it's in a comfortable price range so the 660's pricing is kind of null seeing how much the 670 beat them

So on the above how would the 670 fare against the 7870's 7950's and 7970's

i can't find a 680 in a comfortable price range so i guess it's out.

plus on, i might use autodesk software too (3ds max/Maya/Sketchbook pro)

ohhh also blender X)

You can't find a 680 that fits your budget, but you can afford all that software?

If the 670 is in your price range, I'd say get that. And of the ones to get, get the Asus DirectCU or the Gigabyte Windforce.
