I am looking to make the computer in my bedroom a bit more quiet, I'm going to start with the fans, but currently I notice that its my HDD that really makes noise. Does anyone know which HDD's are most quiet/reliable?
Both brands are reliable and offer either 3 or 5 year warranties and 8 MB cache drives, though Seagate has been making quiet drives longer and has the more established reputation.
Maybe it is the case. Some computer cases amplify vibration noises. My case has screws with rubber vibration isolators so the hard drive does not touch the metal part of the case. I have heard of mounting with rubber bands or in insulated cases. The liquid fluid bearings might help that most new hard drives have. A lot of new cases have 120mm case fans that spin at lower RPM's.
