Looking for a new DVD player

DVDs aren't 1080p, so I don't know what's up with your first requirement.

I suggest a HTPC.

I would start by looking at the Oppo 981HD.

You may not need to look any further than that.

The only player that is 1080p is a blu-ray player. But if you just want to upconvert your standard dvds to 1080p, then like Viper suggested, look at the Oppo 981HD.

I thought "technically" the HD-DVD only does 1080i.

HTPC = Home Theater PC

Build your own PC or use a headless laptop to do DVD upscaling. Of course, the WAF* on the latter is pretty low.

Right now I use a modded Xbox with XBMC to stream+upscale to 720p.
