Right now I have a Kodak DC215. Im looking to get my wife a new one for X-mas. Anyone got any suggesions? I am looking to spend around $300. I've been told by ppl i work with the new Kodaks are nice and to stay away from Olympus. I like Olympus, what do all you PC savy ppl think????

I've always had good experiences with Olympus cameras. I don't think you can go wrong with one. But if you really want to impress your wife, consider a Canon Elph, due to the size. Women love cute and small, and that's exactly what the Elph line is. They are extremely compact and well built. I have a Canon S200 and I love it. You should be able to get an S200 for well under 300 since the new S230 came out sporting 3 megapixels instead of 2mp for the S200.

I have had only good experience with Oly digicams. I'm on my second (700z) but the first is still going strong despite a hard life. I had Canons when in 35mm and equally good experiences. I guess Kodak has been making cameras for a while (or having cameras made for them), but I prefer to buy from a camera company not a film company. Oly always gets good marks for image quality (which is what counts after all).

I say get all the zoom you can find in your price range and 2-3MP.

great guys! I know we are not happy with the image quality the kodak is producing right now. One shot it's great, then the next one is all fuzzy. No consistancy.

I'll look into the olympus 🙂

I have had an Olympus D 490Z zoom for a year and it takes great pictures without any effort. My wife can and does handle it with ease. I also hear that the Canon S 30 and S 40 (or is it G30/40) are excellent cameras.

We had a Kodak DC280 that went belly-up after 1.5 years, I will never buy another Kodak because of their repair policy... they won't sell parts to anyone they will only do out-of-warranty work themselves at great expense. We decided to scrap it and went with the Canon A40 and we are very pleased with it so far.
